YOUR COMMUNITY UPDATE – AUGUST 2021

As children go back to school and we enjoy the last of the autumn sunshine, we face in September with a greater sense of hope than before. The remaining COVID-19 restrictions will be lifted in the coming weeks and we can look forward to some semblance of pre-pandemic times. This is just a short update on some of the work I’ve been doing on your behalf. It also includes some news and information which you may find useful. We are continuing our walkabouts around the area and I look forward to meeting you in person over the coming weeks. In the meantime, if you would like to discuss anything in the newsletter or would like help or advice, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Bí slán agus bí sona!

Send me your views on crime and policing

Later on this month, I will attend the county’s Joint Policing Committee where elected councillors discuss crime and policing in the local area with senior Garda officers. In advance of this meeting, I intend to submit information on observed crime in the area to the Gardaí and ask them to outline how they intend to respond. I am keen to gather as much information as I can. If there is something you would like me to bring to the attention of the Gardaí, please submit it here and I will raise it on your behalf.

24-hr bus travel secured for Lucan & Palmerstown

Last week Dublin Bus informed me that the launch of the C-spine serving Palmerstown and Lucan in October/November, as part of BusConnects, will also include a 24-hour service. This is something I have worked tirelessly for since being elected and I know how important it is to residents in our area, especially shift workers. This will greatly enhance our local public transport system and I will keep you informed as it is rolled out. In the meantime I  will continue to work for better public transport services in Lucan, Palmerstown and North Clondalkin.

Bollards on the R148-Kennelsfort Road Junction

In response to concerns I raised on behalf of road users in Palmerstown about dangerous u-turns at the Kennelsfort Road-R148 junction, the Council has agreed to install flex-bollards to separate u-turning traffic from left-turning traffic from Kennelsfort Road upper. Road safety for drivers joining the R148 has been a persistent issue and I am hopeful that this measure will make this junction safer for all who use it.

County Development Plan – Webinar

A public consultation on the draft County Development Plan is currently underway and will conclude on September 15th. On Tuesday 7 September, I’ll be hosting a second public webinar on the South Dublin County Development Plan and how you can participate in the public consultation that is currently underway. If you’d like to attend, you can sign up at https://www.shanemoynihan.ie/contact-shane-moynihan/ with “Sep 7 webinar” in the message body or you can reply to this email with “Sep 7 webinar” in the subject line. Urban Picnic in Corkagh Park

I am delighted to see Urban Picnic start in Corkagh Park from this Saturday for a 9-week trial run! It will be open from 11am to 5pm, at the St John’s side and applications will open shortly for stalls. This is a brilliant boost for the community, particularly the many small business owners who have contacted me directly about the potential of our parks. It is great to see this response to my campaign for an outdoor strategy, including my calls for such outdoor markets earlier on this year and last. Please support this event to show that these initiatives can work! Feel free to get in touch with me if you are interested in having a slot in the park.

Estate Update: Colthurst & Rochfort Downes

I was delighted to learn an extra lamp will be added to the existing column on the green area between Colthurst Park and Rochfort Park, following my representation. This will ensure that a large green area between both estates will be better lit up and make it feel safer for residents who need to use it. I am grateful to Colthurst & Rochfort Residents Association for highlighting this issue. If there is something in your estate you would like to raise, please get in touch.

Ballyowen Lane District Clean-up

I have been approached by a number of residents in the estates beside Ballyowen Lane who are interested in organising a community clean-up of the area. A number of people have expressed an interest in being involved, and we are now targeting the end of September to get started. If you would like to be involved, please contact me and I will share details with you.

South Dublin County Council is establishing a Women’s Caucus in South Dublin. The Caucus is apolitical and it aims to get women into politics, but also keep women in politics. This initiative is being led by my colleague Councillor Emma Murphy and you can learn more here.
