It is hard to believe that Halloween is just around the corner. The evenings have grown longer. There are many things going in and around our area, and it is fantastic to see community life in full swing. The budget announced by the Government has been welcomed by most people I have spoke to and I provide detailed information on it in this newsletter.
I have been out and about at the weekends in various parts of Palmerstown, Lucan, Balgaddy and North Clondalkin and as ever, if I can help you with anything, please get in touch.
Beir bua!

Budget 2023
Budget 2023 was announced at the end of September, and the €11 billion package announced is designed to provide some support and reassurance for people facing into a very difficult winter. There was a welcome focus on education and childcare, as well as targeted support for those who needed it. I have compiled a comprehensive guide on the Budget on my website and you can learn more here. This gives a full overview of the measures announced and also information on new entitlements that are available to you.
Planning Application – Foxhunter site
A planning application for a large distributor warehouse has been lodged for the Foxhunter site in recent weeks. The scale of the proposed development is extremely concerning and a number of residents have been in touch with me about it. You can view the applicationhere, and I will be convening an online meeting next week to give advice on it. If you would like to attend, please let me know. Submissions must be made by 9 November.
Footpath, cycle tracks and road repairs
One of my priorities since being elected has been to ensure proper attention is given to proper investment in repairing our footpaths and maintenance of our cycle tracks and roads. I was pleased to see footpath repairs take place in Oakcourt, following my representations, footpath repairon Castle Road, replacement of thecycle track on Griffeen Avenue/BalgaddyRoad, something I have sought for quite some time, improved visibility atMount Andrew Place, progress on the Lett’s Field footpathand a commitment to (finally)repair the footpaths on the “ramp road” heading towards Rowlagh and Collinstown Community College. Please let me know if there are areas you know of which require attention.
Making our Streets Safer
I continue to campaign for better lighting in our area, especially as the evenings draw longer. I was pleased tosee that the extensions I requested for Castle Roadare now working well, and I have requested the same for Griffeen Avenue/Balgaddy Road where trees are obscuring the lights. I am also pleased to see significant progress on thePublic Realm Improvement Programme, including many issues I have campaigned for, including improvement works atCluain Rí Park. I am also pleased to see thatlong overdue maintenanceof Hermitage Playground will take place.
Clamping Down on Anti-Social Behaviour
This time of year always brings a focus on the need to address anti-social behaviour and it is a matter whichI consistently draw to the attention of South Dublin County Council and An Garda Siochána. I am also a member of the County Joint Policing Committee and the Local Policing Forum, which gives me an opportunity to raise concerns residents may have directly with Garda officers. You can have your say by attending theLocal Policing ForumPublic Meeting on 10 November 2022.
U-turn at Kennelsfort Road
It was good to see common sense prevail at last and to see this ‘No U-Turn’ sign erected at the R148/Kennelsfort Road Junction. Safety at this junction needs to be addressed, and I am pleased to see some progress in this regard. This is something I have continuously raised, since being elected. I have also requested replacement bollards to protect traffic joining the R148.
Speaking up for Balgaddy
I continue to campaign on behalf of residents in Balgaddy and was pleased to learn that the new Working Group to address conditions in Balgaddy has started its programme of meetings. This was something that I and other councillors sought as we believe that the only way to address the barriers residents in Balgaddy face is by proper inter-agency working. We also recently received the Council’s quarterly update on work in Balgaddy which you can viewhere. I am always proud to show off where I grew up and washonoured to be asked to speak to the newmembers of Divine Mercy SNS Student Council recently.

I was delighted to attend and speak to the exhibitors with Mayor Cllr. Emma Murphy at lunchtime, many of whom provide essential services in our area. I’m looking forward to the next event already! It was also great to bepart of the celebrationsfor the first birthday of North Clondalkin Running Club, who are a great asset to our area!
