Public Realm Improvement Plan for 2023 presented
At the January Area Committee Meeting, councillors were presented with the minor works improvement plan for 2023. This is a list of small projects designed to improve the public realm, which would not be covered by the capital budget. There are 26 projects in total across Lucan, Palmerstown, Balgaddy and North Clondalkin. I was very pleased to see some of the items I requested and supported on this list including path upgrades in Hermitage Park, path resurfacing in Collinstown Park, wheelchair-capacity play equipment in Waterstown Park, path resurfacing in Ballyowen Park, flower boxes at Lucan Bridge & 1 at Vesey Bridge and path resurfacing between Tor an Rí and Meile an Rí in Balgaddy.
Footpath, Cycle Tracks and Road Maintenance Plan for 2023 presented
During January, councillors were presented with the proposed2023 programme for footpath repair, cycle track maintenance and roadworksfor Palmerstown, Lucan and North Clondalkin. Almost €1 million will be spent on upgrading footpaths in our area, including many estates inPalmerstownwhich I have repeatedly highlighted. I was disappointed not to seeestatessuch as Abbeywood, Abbeydale and Earlsfort listed for works but I have an undertaking from Council management that they will look at prioritising works in these locations for the 2024 programme. I am also encouraged to see that thecycle tracks on St. Loman’s Road and Castle Road will be resurfaced. Extensiveroad resurfacingis also planned, including Balgaddy Road and Thomas Omer Way.
What would you like to see in Quarryvale Park?
Delivering an improved Quarryvale Park has beensomethingI have prioritised since being elected. I am pleased that, following extensive lobbying, we have securedalmost €500,000 to upgrade Quarryvale Park. The design team has started work and want to hear from the community about what should be here. They will be embarking on community consultations and have prepared a community survey which you can accesshere. I would also love to hear from you about what you’d like to see in the park.
Work ongoing on Ballyowen Lane and Cluain Rí Park
I was really happy tosee new gates being installed at Cluain Rí Parkon Ballyowen Lane, something which I secured as part of last year’s Public Realm Improvement Programme. When elected, I committed to improving the look and security of this park when elected. Having secured the upgrade of footpaths, overdue tree maintenance and now new gates, it has improved. I have also sought the removal of graffiti from the walls on Ballyowen Lane, and the resurfaced paths and cycle lanes have made a difference. I would welcome feedback on what other works we can undertake to improve the look and feel of Ballyowen Lane.
Update on public transport in our area.
There has been overdue but welcome news that Kishogue Station will be open before the end of the year which I’ve consistently pushed for since I was elected in 2019. You can see the latest response from the NTAhere. I have also been seeking updates on when the newW2(Liffey Valley to Tallaght, via Clondalkin) andW4(Blanchardstown to Tallght, via Lucan) routes will commence. We should see both these routes being operational by the end of June. Finally, I also raised some of the concerns expressed by residents about the junction redesign at the Oval Junction in Palmerstown, as part of my submission on the Lucan Core Bus Corridor. Thanks to all those who attended my public meeting on the matter.
Balgaddy update
Residents have raised a few issueswith me about the construction works at Balgaddy, which I have addressed. I have raised the need for road cleaning during working hours on Griffeen Avenue, especially during wet weather. I have been informed that the contractors are observing the agreed hours of construction and I have requested details on how consultation on the new community centre will take place. The latest update received on overall progress in Balgaddy ishere. I was also really happy to confirm that the inter-agency working group for Balgaddy will now provide feedback to the Area Committee on its progress. The establishment of this working group is something that I called for (alongside other councillors) following a request from Balgaddy Residents Association.
When the houses at Lett’s Field were built, there was a commitment given for a junior playing field to be provided in the green area adjacent. I have been highlighting thedelayin providing this amenity since being elected and will continue to do so until this commitment is followed through. I am pleased that the Council has responded to mymost recent motionrequesting movement on this issue. I am also pleased that the outstanding footpath work in Letts Field has been completed, something Iraisedandfollowed up on.
