I hope that this newsletter finds you and your loved ones well. The month of February has vanished in a blink and it will not be long until we celebrate St Patrick’s Day. I am continuing my regular walkabouts around our area, meeting people in different estates, working with various community groups and am always available to provide advice and assistance with various schemes, both local and national. Our young people continue to do us proud, whether on thetheatrical stageor thepolitical stage! If I can be of any help, please reach out to me.

Meeting with Minister of State for Transport
I was pleased to meet Minister of State for Transport Jack Chambers TD when he visited Liffey Valley recently. I took the opportunity to raise various issues with public transport in our area with him, including the issues with capacity on the C-spine and G-spine routes, connectivity for Dodsborough as well as the need to prioritise the opening of Kishogue Station. We also received a tour of the new bus interchange at Liffey Valley which came into operation a few weeks ago. Bus Routes L51, L53, 26, 76(a) and the G2 will stop and commence here. The new orbital routes W2 and S4 will also stop here when they commence. As ever, I welcome feedback on public transport in our area so please feel free to share it with me so I can bring it to the attention of the minister and the NTA.
Minister for Housing visits Adamstown and Clonburris
I was delighted to welcome Minister for HousingDarragh O’Brien TDto Dublin Mid-West on his visit to Adamstown and Clonburris this week. With Mayor Cllr. Emma Murphy, the Minister opened the new Celbridge Link Road (and Kildare North deputy James Lawless TD). We also visited to the new Airlie Park to see the newly built recreational facilities such as the multi purpose Astro facility and playspace as well as a high level of new housing in Adamstown. This was followed by a call to The Crossings where construction of the new retail centre and library are well underway. We finished off by visiting the first street of the Clonburris SDZ which will host the new houses to be built there. It was great to see real and tangible progress in delivering housing and community supports – all of which are supported by funding from Minister O’Brien’s department.
Public Realm Improvement
I am really happy to have secured a number of improvements to our public space over the past few weeks, including repair of dangerous footpaths atEarlsfort, completion of the footpaththrough Lett’s Field, installation of new road signs for Wood Avens, drainage repair atRosewoodandimproved public lightingfor the new bus stop at Station Road for residents of Palmerstown Woods. I alsorequested an updateon the completion of the 2022 Public Realm Improvement Programme and am pleased to see that most projects have been completed and outstanding ones will be finished by the end of March.
Progress on Road Maintenance
I have been bringing the condition of some ramps in estates and on roads around our area to the Council. These include ramps that need repair in the Coppice in Woodfarm Acres,Wheatfields and Oatfiedsestates. I am hopeful that repairs will be carried out speedily. In order to ensure that yellow boxes are observed, I have request repainting of boxes at particularly busy locations such asWhitethornestate and Westbury. I have also requested reinstatement of existing double yellow lines, as inEarlsfort. If there are road maintenance issues you observe, let me know.
Improving our Active Travel Infrastructure
The lack of connection between the Fonthill Road cycle lane and that on St Loman’s Road/Liffey Valley/N4 slip road at the St Kevin’s Community College roundabout is something I’ve raised with South Dublin County Council. This would enhance connectivity between multiple important cycle routes. You can see their answerhere. It seems there is no short-term solution but the active travel team are going to examine it to what can be done. I have alsoaskedthe Council to examine what active travel solutions could be put in place on Griffeen Avenue/Balgaddy Road to ease the traffic congestion given the fact that five schools are within a 1.5km radius.
Neilstown District Centre Update
At the most recent meeting of the Lucan, Palmerstown and North Clondalkin Area Committee, Iasked for an updateon the Neilstown District Enhancement. I am pleased that pre-surveys of the area have started and that we will see increased movement over the coming months. I am committed to ensuring that a location for bottle banks is identified as part of that preparatory work to provide this service for the local community.
Exciting developments planned for the 12th Lock
At the February County Council meeting, councillors were given apreview(scroll to H-I(15)) of the initial masterplan for the 12th Lock area in Lucan. This is an area of immense architectural heritage, an important sports hub and placed at an important location between Lucan, Clonburris and the Grange Castle Business Park. I raised the importance of community consultation, including Lucan Sarsfields GAA, the need to preserve the built heritage in the area and the opportunity to incorporate a (long-needed) performance space in the area. The next steps will involve movement to detailed design and there will be a consultation process as part of that.
