Quarryvale Part 8 Consultation now open
The draft designs for Quarryvale Park are now available and out for formal Part 8 consultation. Securing funding for improvement of this park is something I have campaigned for since being elected. I’m delighted to see a number of things I requested as part of the pre-consultation including an upgrade of the grass pitch, playground, outdoor gym equipment, teen space and an activity/running circuit. I believe this upgrade represents a great opportunity for our entire community, given how close the park is to Liffey Valley. You can see the full planshere and make your voice heard by making a submission by May 19th!
Extra opening hours secured for Palmerstown Library
As a father of two young boys, I firmly believe that libraries should be open at times that are convenient for everybody to use them, including families. I am thrilled thatmy request to secure additional opening hoursfor Palmerstown Library has been successful and I look forward to the roll-out of Friday and Saturday opening hours when the resources have been put in place. This is something I requested during last year’s Council budget negotiations, reflecting on how successful Saturday openings have been in attracting families and younger people in to avail of our libraries.
Supporting our local sports clubs
Supporting our local clubs is something that has always been important to me and I am pleased to see progress on a number of matters over the past while. I was pleasedto learn recentlythat the Council is proceeding with plans to deliver the sports playing area on Letts Field. A set of goalposts will be installed in the coming weeks – this is something I have followed up on since being elected so I’m delighted to see this coming to pass! One of the things I requested as part of last year’s budget was provision for a fund for mobile equipment storage, especially for parks and clubs that don’t have access to Pavilions. It was great tosee this new unitinstalled in Griffeen when I was out and about recently! Finally, if your club wouldlike to avail of Council grantsfor equipment, you can learn morehere.
Funding secured for our local community centres
Supporting the management capacity and running costs in our Community Centres was one of the things I campaigned for and secured in this year’s Council Budget. I’m pleased that almost €200,000in grants is being made available to local community centres in Ballyowen, Palmerstown, Rowlagh, Neilstown, Quarryvale and Adamstown. This funding is particularly vital to centres that have are unable to employ managers to ensure that centre use is being maximised. As a chairperson of alocal community centre, I am very happy to see this come to pass and congratulations to all applicants!
Balgaddy Update
We recently received thelatest progress reporton Balgaddy at the latest Lucan, Palmerstown and North Clondalkin Area Committee. This is a regular item which I and other councillors called for to ensure focus and attention on the needed work in Balgaddy. I was also very pleased to learn that the long sought-after multi-agency Working Group is now up and running for Balgaddy – this is something that I and other councillors called for, alongside Balgaddy Residents Association. I am looking forward to the delivery of over 70 homes and a community centre in Balgaddy in the coming months, the sod for which was turned last week.
Policing for Palmerstown
Thanks to my fellow councillors forsupporting my callto include all of Palmerstown in the Ronanstown Garda sub-district as opposed to the current situation where is is split between Ronanstown and Ballyfermot. This is a point I also made in my submission to the Garda Policing Plan – it makes sense to have Palmerstown under the remit of one Garda station which will improve collaboration with South Dublin County Council. I will continue to campaign for this and you can view my speech on my motion on this matterhere.
Updates on Grange Castle, Grand Canal and the 12th Lock
There have been some updates on these areas over the last few weeks. Work is started to get underway on the Grand Canal – Hazelhatch Greenway over the next two or three months. There has been a delay in appointing contractors, according to thisupdateI requested. The planned developments at the 12th Lock will go to a more formal consultation over the coming months but you can see the initial planshere. Amasterplan for the Grange Castle Business Parkis currently being finalised and I am sure it will be of great interest to residents when it is published. If you would like to share your views with me on any of these, please let me know.
Keeping our roads and public spaces safe
I have reported a number of matters over the past few weeks to ensure our roads are kept safe for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists alike. Among the matters I have reported and which were resolved were the repair ofthis dangerous potholein the cycle track outside Woodfarm Acres, the faulty traffic light sequences at theBalgaddy-Fonthill Roadjunction and at theHillcrest-Newcastle Road junction, repair of rampsin Wheatfield and on the Collinstown Road, removal of obstructionson the Lucan Road and theinsertion of a yellow boxon the Neilstown Road. I am disappointed that the pedestrian crossings on St Loman’s Road which I campaigned for have not been activated yet – I will be following up on this with ESB Networks and the Council.
Silver Bridge restoration is underway
Igot a chance to see the conservation worksat the Silver Bridge a few weeks ago – really excited that Fingal County Council are proceeding with this. From a South Dublin County Council side, we have ensured that there is budget put aside to acquire lands to facilitate a cycle-way using the bridge (which I requested) as well as a clear commitment to that in the County Development Plan (following a motion I tabled). As the bridge is not in SDCC ownership, we now need to move to continued advocacy to make the cycleway a reality though it was super to see it mentioned in the Greater Dublin Transport Strategy recently.
Out and about!
We are so lucky to have such active volunteers and community groups in our area. Thanks especially to those who organised this year’s St Patrick’s Day parades. I was privileged to represent the Mayor at thePalmerstown Paradewhich goes from strength to strength every year. I experienced theelectric atmosphere in Lucanfirst-hand and it was great to see such crowds in the village! I was also delighted to join the community in Adamstown for theircelebration of Holi– my boys definitely had a great time!
