It has been a busy few weeks though it has been wonderful to see people out and about enjoying the fantastic weather! My team and I continue our weekly walkabouts and I am enjoying meeting folks about the place.
Cllr Alan Edge was elected as the new Mayor last Friday. He follows in the footsteps of my colleague Cllr Emma Murphy who did a fantastic job during her year. I was also delighted to see my party colleague Cllr Yvonne Collins chosen as Deputy Mayor, succeeding Cllr Joanna Tuffy.

Quarryvale Park upgrade approved
Councillorsvoted to approve the proposed Part 8 upgrade to Quarryvale Parkat the June Council meeting. Thanks to all the people, clubs and groups who took the time to do the survey, engage with the design consultants and who gave me feedback on the design. I firmly believe that these works will unlock the potential of Quarryvale Park and it is something I have campaigned for since being elected. The new park will feature new and upgraded pathways, shared footpath/cycle routes linking the Fonthill Road entrance to Shancastle and Greenfort including street lighting and formal trees, pedestrian areas with seating, a playground and Teen Space, provision for active recreation, including an 800m Activity Circuit, an upgrade of Grass Sports Pitch and biodiversity improvements.
W4 route welcome but bus capacity challenges remain
I amdelighted to see that the W4 Routeconnecting Lucan to Tallaght and Blanchardstown s now in operation. This is something I have campaigned for since first running for election. Buses at peak times are supposed to run every 15 minutes, and then every 30 minutes at other times. Full information is availablehere.However, it is evident that capacity on the C-spine routes is still an issue for many bus users despite assurances from Dublin Bus. I have called on the NTA to hold bus operators to account for the breaks in service that are now becoming commonplace, especially at the weekend. I believe that operators should be required to give advance notice of where service will be affected and will be pursuing this with my colleagues.
Making our area safer for pedestrians and cyclists
As you can see, I was absolutelydelighted to see the pedestrian crossing lightsat Hermitage Park up and running a few weeks back! It took over 4 years of motions, questions and follow-ups but really happy with the end result, following through on a promise I made in 2019. I was also pleased to getcommitments to upgrade the safety at the pedestrian crossingat Rowlagh SuperValu. The installation ofsegregated cycle infrastructureat junctions in Lucan is very welcome and I will continue to campaign for safe cycle lanes to enable our children to cycle to school. Similarly, the need to finish the landscaping at theBlack Pathis something I continue to raise.
Need to keep local trees pruned and safe
With the large amounts of sunshine and intense bouts of rainfall, we have noticed that growth in hedgerows and overhanging trees has accelerated. Where these trees obstruct the footpath or pose a danger to pedestrians, they need to be addressed, as in the case of Griffeen Road or onthe paths alongside the R136which I have raised with the Council. The Council’s tree maintenance programme is underway and I requested anupdateon progress recently. If you know of a tree that is dead, diseased or dying, please let me knowso I can request removal. I am also asking people to let me know if they notice signs that need repair or replacement. I havealready identified some nearWoodavens and on the Fonthill Road.
Salt bin secured for Palmerstown Footbridge
When the sun has been shining for as long as it has, it is hard to think of snow and cold snaps! I’m happy toconfirm that, having raised it continuously for over a year, that a salt bin willbe installed at Palmerstown Footbridge to reduce slippage risk. I am still following up on resurfacing and repair but this is an important first step. I was also pleased to learn that there will be an additional ten community salt bins provided in Lucan, Palmerstown and North Clondalkin. The Council is also inviting estates to apply for an estate salt bin which will store approximately 100kg of salt. Contact me if you’d like to learn more.
I was proud to sign theSocial Enterprise Charter, under the oversight of with Social Enterprise Ireland. I will be working closely alongside Fianna Fáil spokesperson on Social Enterprise, John Lahart TD.The aim of this project is to increase the understanding and knowledge of what social enterprises are and the impact they have. There are many such social enterprises in our area which deliver innovative solutions to social issues and develop stronger self-sustaining communities.
