It is hard to believe that we are in October already, after what did not seem like a summer at all! I have continued to support events around our area, call to homes and raise concerns that are important to our community. I have provided a short summary of my work below. More progress needed on local public transport services
Adequate provision of public transport is top of mind for so many people in our area. It’sbeen somethingI’ve been working on over the past few months and here are some updates I wanted to share:
– I’ve raised the many concerns about lack of capacity on the C1 and C2, especially on Saturday services
– Additional capacity will be put in place on C3 and C4 routes from mid-October
– A new S4 route (connecting Liffey Valley Shopping Centre and UCD) in November.
I wasalso disappointedwith the decision to delay the opening of Kishogue Station until Spring next year. I am working with the Council and the NTA to get this station open sooner rather than later because of the huge demand for additional public transport in our area. Please share your feedback with me on your experience of our public transport so I can share with the NTA.
Hedge-cutting and tree pruning need to be accelerated
I was very pleased to seelong overdue hedge trimming take place on Griffeen Road, which I have been requesting for some time. The footpath was unpassable andhas now been brought back into use. Similar work was completed, following my requests, on the Newcastle road from Maxol to Adamstown. Icontinue to follow upon other areas which need attention, including the R136 and Castle Road. Tree pruning is still overdue in many of our estates and I asked the Council for a timetable for work (seehere).
Local Policing Forum Public Meeting on 12 October
Have your voice heard on policing, crime and anti-social behaviour in our area! The Ronanstown Garda StationLocal Policing Forum Public Meetingtakes place in St Peter the Apostle JNS on Thursday 12 October at 7.00pm. This is an opportunity for members of the public in Lucan, Palmerstown, Balgaddy and North Clondalkin to engage directly with senior Garda officers, Council management and members of the Local Policing Forum. All are welcome – spread the word.
Out and about over the summer!
There has been an absolute wealth of events on over the past few months and it has been great to see such high levels of community engagement and fun, especially at theLucan Festival.Thanks to all the volunteers who make these events possible. Highlights included:
– I wasdelightedto support Collinstown FC’s u14 boys for their fundraising to go to the Barcelona Cup in October.
Iplaced a motion calling for explicitcooperation between Fingal and South Dublin County Councils on the Silver Bridge, emphasising the need for SDCC to keep the pressure on – our Council has a strategic interest in making this come to pass. SDCC should not be a bystander in the process. I secured funding in last year’s budget to be used to acquire land to bring the bridge into use, and I also secured a commitment to bring the bridge back into use in our Development Plan. I will request a further update in coming months.
Ensuring safety for pedestrians and our schools
I wasdelightedto see the safety improvement works to the pedestrian crossing at Rowlagh which I requested completed some time ago. This will make a huge difference to users of Rowlagh shops. Equally, I wasone of the first councillorsto demand a traffic management plan following the closure of the footpath at the Lucan Swimming Pool site andsecured necessary changesto improve safety, as covered by theIrish Independent. I have also beenpursuing improvement to safetyat the Balgaddy Construction site, given the high volumes of traffic there.
Maintaining investment in our footpaths and roads
A priority for me since being elected has been to improve footpaths in housing estates in our area. I am particularly pleased to see repairs have taken place inRiverside DriveandRochfortDownes. Long overdue work in theWoodfarm Acres extensionis due to take place shortly. I have been keeping pressure on the Council to deliver this year’s Footpath and Road Repair Programme on schedule (seehere). I am also pleased to see theroad marking repainting programmeunderway.
Paying attention to our public spaces
I was happy toreport that the Councilhave informed me that they will repair the damaged water fountain in Waterstown Park. Similarly, one of the things which was consistently raised with me in Wood Avens when I visited was the need for proper road signs in the estate. I was delighted to seethem installedfollowing my representations! If you see anypublic lights that need repair, please get in touch!
