I hope that you had a good St Patrick’s Day weekend and that you are looking forward to the Easter break. This is a short run-down of the matters I have been working on over the past month or so, many of which are issues that have been raised with people that I have been meeting during our door-to-door engagement across Palmerstown, Lucan, North Clondalkin and Balgaddy. We have been continuously out and about since being elected and it is good to see progress on projects which I have been advancing. As ever, please feel free to get in touch, or follow my work onFacebook,InstagramandX.

Commitment secured to improve Ballyowen Shopping Centre!
I am delighted to be able to report that acommitmenthas been secured from Ballyowen Shopping Centre to improve look and feel of the centre, including resurfacing of car park. After six months, the Lucan, Palmerstown and North Clondalkin Area Committee received a response from the owners of Ballyowen Shopping Centre, where they set out their plans on how to improve the environs of the centre. This was on foot of two motions I tabled requesting such an updat. I am also pleased to see that the concerns I raised about the condition of the Ballyowen Shopping Centre car parkhave been taken on board, and included in the Council’s Planning Department response to the recent planning application. The Council has asked for additional information asking how the state of the car park will be improved, before it decides to proceed with permission.
Holding the Council accountable on Tree Maintenance
Tree maintenance is something about which I get contacted a lot. When elected, I promised to get estates that had not seen tree maintenance in some time included on the 2023-2025 programme. This was done but the pace of delivery is not as fast as I would have hoped. I have been keeping the Council accountable on the delivery of this programme and you can see my contributionhereand you can see the Council’s written responsehere.
Improving accessibility for all in our area
Making sure that our local footpaths are clear and accessible is something which I have always prioritised and I am pleased to see a number of works which I requested take place or planned to take place in the coming weeks. These include the dishing offootpathsin Oakcourt Lawns, thewideningof the footpath on the Fonthill Road (Balgaddy junction) and theclearing of the pathwayfrom Whitethorn to Palmerstown Woods.
Tackling the scourge and effects of drugs in our area
Prioritising a focus on drugs policy is something I have done since becoming Chairperson of the county’s Jojnt Policing Committee (JPC). In February, on my initiation, the JPC hosted ashowcasefor all agencies working in the drugs policy sphere, whether from a criminal justice, health or safety perspective to learn from one another, educate policymakers and inform the general public. This followed a discussion of the issue by the entire committee. Drugs are a very real issue in our communities and it is my belief that only by coming together can state agencies effectively address the challenge. It was great to see the event in full flow and thanks to the many different agencies which took part.
Securing improvements to our roads
It was good to getconfirmationat last (after a long time of chasing) that the Foxborough side of the R136 junction will be resurfaced properly, and I also welcome theplanned bus shelterat Foxborough which I requested. This is long overdue – thanks to all the residents who raised it with me. I also joined residents in Wood Avens this week requesting resurfacing in parts of their estate and I will continue to raise with management. I was pleased to see line repainting work on Castle Road and inColthurstbut have also requested that the work be finished in Rochfort. I was also happy to get confirmation last week that the traffic lightsfaultI reported at the Fonthill Road/Thomas Omer Way junction has been repaired.
Seeking space for our SMEs
We have great locations in South Dublin county that are really successful in incubating and promoting start-ups, includingACE Enterprise Park(where I’m proud to be a Board member). However, we need more space for new SMEs that are not quite start-ups. Imadethis point in our February Area Committee meeting. I’m pleased that the Council have taken this on board and look forward to the County’s economic strategy in the coming weeks that will address this issue. It was great to be able to join members of Lucan Business to Business network to discuss this recently.
Affordable housing scheme open for applications
Seven homes are being made available by South Dublin County Council under the Affordable Purchase Housing Scheme at Kilcarbery Grange. You can get further informationhere. Applications close at 4:00 p.m. on Friday 12th April. Additionally, quite a number of people have contacted me about when the homes at St Mark’s and on the Cloverhill Road will be completed – I’ve kept this on the agenda with the Council and you can see the latest responsehere.
Keeping our public spaces clean and safe
I was very pleased to seeworktake place to clear the illegal dumping and debris from this embankment off Thomas Omer Way, adjacent to Kishoge CC. This was the result of a lot of behind the scenes work and I’m grateful to members of the community who worked with me on it. I will now be continuing to ask that the Council secure the site to prevent this extent of dumping in the future. As well, I am delighted to see that thecommitmentto install goalposts on the Letts Field Green area will now be honoured in April, having continuously raised it since being elected. I was also happy toseemy request to cut back the overgrowth, brambles and branches at the St Loman’s Road/Fonthill roundabout carried out. I continue to request clearance of vegetation on the footpath on St Loman’s Road and am disappointed to see that public lights have not yet been repaired near Oakcourt and St Ronan’s despite having requested repair.
Supporting our community groups
We are lucky to have so many community groups and volunteers in our area and they have been in full flight over the past few weeks! North Clondalkin Choir filled our hearts with pride during their visit to Assisi and the Vatican – listen to the RTE reporthere! Daffodil Day teams were out in force in Lucan andPalmerstownand I joined young people as part of aCrosscare initiativeto discuss politics and democracy. It was great to join members of our Muslim community for an Iftar meet, and to celebrateHoliwith members of our Indian community. Dice Players kick off their next set ofacting classesin Palmerstown from 13 April and don’t forget to sign up forNorth Clondalkin Running Club’s 10K and Half-Marathon on 25 May!
Thanks to all our St Patrick’s Day volunteers!

I was delighted to be able to visit them all and to experience the sheer sea of colour, incredible buzz and excitement. These events take a lot of work so thanks to the organising committees of theLucan,PalmerstownandClondalkinparades! Looking forward to next year already.
